Project U.D.M Live Report – A promising new Visual Kei band emerges

Project U.D.M is a five-member newcomer band consisting of Isara (Vo.), 凛-Lin- (Gt.), Asato (Gt.), Rabi (Ba.) and Raika (Dr. & Band-Leader). The band made its pre-debut at Ikebukuro EDGE on April 30, 2026. With the concept “-間と光を引き裂いて生み出す、不滅の重奏- / AN UNDYING REQUIEM AWAKENS –”, the project clearly positions itself within the traditional kote-kei visual style while incorporating strong metal influences into its music.

At their third live performance,  on May 16, 2026 in Ikebukuro EDGE, Project U.D.M opened the event live with a five-song set, including a ballad. From the very beginning, it became apparent that the band places great importance on direct interaction with the audience. Through repeated crowd-participation moments and an open stage presence, they quickly established a connection with those fans.

The first songs were characterized by powerful riffs and high energy before the ballad M:ARIA in the middle of the set provided an atmospheric contrast. After a short MC, the intensity increased once again and the remaining songs continued the more rock-oriented direction of the performance. These shifts between powerful and calmer moments gave the set an enjoyable sense of dynamics.

Musically, the band already demonstrated a distinct identity. Heavy guitar work combined with catchy melodies resulted in songs that not only work well live but also actively engage the audience. Frontman Isara added further impact to the material with his powerful vocals and played a vital role in ensuring the songs remained memorable even after the performance had ended. The combination of strong vocals, memorable melodies and powerful arrangements already gives this young band a remarkable presence.

Despite being in such an early stage of their activities, the performance felt surprisingly cohesive.

Visually, Project U.D.M remains firmly rooted in the classic kote-kei aesthetic, while the music introduces its own unique elements. This blend of familiar scene traditions and modern heaviness gives the project a distinctive character.

Until Project U.D.M’s official Debut, it will be exciting to see how the concept of “AN UNDYING REQUIEM AWAKENS” continues to develop. Their third live performance certainly left the impression of a band that already possesses a clear direction and a strong stage presence. Definitively worth to follow their activities.

Project U.D.M est un nouveau groupe composé de cinq membres : Isara (chant), 凛-Lin- (guitare), Asato (guitare), Rabi (basse) et Raika (batterie et leader du groupe). Le projet a effectué ses débuts officieux le 30 avril 2026 au Ikebukuro EDGE. Avec pour concept « -間と光を引き裂いて生み出す、不滅の重奏- / AN UNDYING REQUIEM AWAKENS –» (De la déchirure de l’espace et de la lumière naît une polyphonie éternelle / L’éveil d’un requiem immortel), le groupe s’inscrit clairement dans la tradition du visual kei kote-kei tout en y incorporant de fortes influences metal.

Pour son troisième concert, donné le 16 mai 2026 au Ikebukuro EDGE, Project U.D.M a ouvert l’événement avec un set de cinq titres, dont une ballade. Dès les premiers instants, le groupe a démontré l’importance qu’il accorde à l’interaction avec le public. Grâce à de nombreux passages invitant la foule à participer et à une présence scénique particulièrement communicative, les musiciens ont rapidement créé un lien avec les fans présents.

Les premiers titres se sont distingués par leurs riffs puissants et leur énergie débordante, avant que la ballade “M:ARIA”, placée au milieu du set, n’apporte une parenthèse plus atmosphérique. Après un court MC, l’intensité est montée d’un cran et les morceaux suivants ont renoué avec l’orientation plus rock de la prestation. Ces alternances entre passages percutants et moments plus posés ont apporté une dynamique appréciable à l’ensemble du set.

Sur le plan musical, le groupe a déjà démontré une identité bien affirmée. L’association de guitares au son heavy et de mélodies accrocheuses donne naissance à des compositions qui fonctionnent particulièrement bien sur scène tout en favorisant l’implication du public. Le chanteur Isara renforce encore l’impact de ces morceaux grâce à sa voix puissante et joue un rôle essentiel en s’assurant que les chansons restent ancrés dans les mémoires, et ce bien après la fin du concert. La combinaison de performances vocales solides, de mélodies marquantes et d’arrangements percutants confère déjà à ce jeune groupe une présence remarquable.

Malgré le stade encore très précoce de ses activités, le groupe a livré une prestation étonnamment aboutie.

Visuellement, Project U.D.M reste solidement ancré dans l’esthétique kote-kei classique, tandis que la musique y apporte sa propre identité. Cette alliance entre les traditions familières de la scène visual kei et une approche plus moderne et heavy confère au projet une identité singulière.

En attendant le début officiel de Project U.D.M, il sera intéressant d’observer l’évolution du concept « De la déchirure de l’espace et de la lumière naît une polyphonie éternelle / L’éveil d’un requiem immortel ». Ce troisième concert a en tout cas laissé l’impression d’un groupe qui possède déjà une direction artistique clairement définie et une présence scénique affirmée. Un projet dont les prochaines activités méritent assurément d’être suivies.
